How To STOP Running From Your Dreams

Are you someone who has no trouble dreaming up big things, but can’t seem to take action toward achieving your dreams?

In fact, many people specifically run AWAY from their dreams and cannot quite figure out why?

Here are 3 questions that will help you STOP running away from your dreams and START you on the path to making them come true

Are your dreams YOURS?

How do most of us determine what our dreams are at any point in our lives?

Often it’s through inspiration by someone else…someone close to us, someone online, a celebrity, or someone we read about inspires something within us that makes us feel ALIVE again.

Being inspired by others is GREAT…

Problems arise when we also look to copy them. Make their dreams OUR dreams because they spark something emotional within us in that moment.

The real challenge though is that we each have our own dreams…our own emotionally charged desires and wants in life AND, I believe a set of skills and capabilities that are unique for succeeding at certain dreams and goals.

So one of the questions you MUST ask yourself, especially if you continually run from your current dreams, is are these dreams MY dreams? Or have I copied them from someone else who appears to be living a great life?

For you to spend the time, energy and to persist with achieving your dreams, they must be YOURS

Is This The Most IMPORTANT Dream?

Another common mistake people make is focusing on the wrong dream(s). You may be focused on a dream of being wonderfully wealthy or of owning other material things…but underneath it all, you may really want to feel better about yourself and so the material dreams are really just “fake” dreams to help you feel better or overcome the pain associated with not achieving something else.

Ask yourself…is there something else that is MORE important? Perhaps my health, how I look physically (40 lbs heavier than when you were 20). Or maybe it’s that you have lost control of your finances or can’t find a rewarding job or career?

Often times having the wrong priority associated with a given dream is THE reason that you continually sabotage progress toward it.

Fear!

If after considering #1&2 you still are blocked then it comes down to fear.

What are you afraid of? Usually this comes down to fear of judgement…when you get to a place where your own judgement is ALL that matters then you can mange most fear

Most times, the fear that causes us to delay or outright ignore progress toward achieving our biggest dreams is that we either let someone down (parents, teacher, peers, etc…) or that we look bad (embarrassment, criticism, rejection, put down, excluded, etc…) in front of those we have elevated or even those that we want to beat.

Trouble is our mind builds these up to be much more likely and impactful than they really are…a technique I like to use is to visualize those people as having their own busy lives, with their own challenges, their own fears and challenges – so much so that they are highly unlikely to even see or care what you are doing – or at the very least, highly unlikely that their thoughts of you will be anywhere near as negative as you fear in your mind.

The sooner you can STOP worrying about what other people will think about you, the sooner you will reduce the amount of fear in your life AND the more free you will be to live the life you dream of.

Eventually, you get to a place where your only concern should be being true to yourself, to keep moving forward despite nervousness, short-term pain or fear of external judgement.

Focusing on the right dreams and conquering the fear of judgement that surrounds all of us will go a long way to helping you achieve the dreams you have in your life.
