Today, more than ever, stress is a big part of everyday life. What most people don't realize is that constant stress can have a big impact on your outlook and mood as well as your health and that is why finding effective stress relief is so important.
For busy families today balancing work, school and family life can result in a high level of stress. While you can do little to avoid these outside forces that cause stress, one thing you can control is how you handle the stress. Learning how to handle stress better will actually relieve some of the bad effects that stress has on you.
Here are four tips for effective stress relief:
1. Take a break. If you notice that your stress levels are rising, just take a break. Perhaps you are at work and your bosses is really piling things on your to do list or the housework is piling up at home and you've got to run the kids to soccer games and other events. Taking a little bit of a break for yourself in maybe having a cup of tea or sitting on your porch and listening to the birds can do wonders. Try listening to some relaxing music or even taking a little 10 or 15 minute walk.
2. Make it go away. Once stress relief technique that I find very effective is to simply make the thing that is stressing me out go away. Is it the boss nagging at you to get a report done? Then get the report done. Do you not have time after work to cook supper? Then try preparing meals on the weekend and freezing them. Adding a few simple changes like getting to work earlier, hiring a house cleaner to help with housework, or having the kids help out with a meal time can help reduce some of your daily stresses.
3. Find your triggers. Keep a journal and write down the things that really cause you to stress out. In order to do this, you'll need to be able to recognize when your stress levels are rising so pay attention to your mood and how you feel. Every time you notice you're getting stressed out, write in your journal noting the date, how you are feeling and what is happening to make you feel that way. After while you will begin to see a pattern of your stress triggers. This way you can try to avoid the things that cause the stress. Maybe they're work-related? If so you might need to look for a new job.
4. Let it go. Sometimes, when things stress us out we obsess over them thinking about them over and over again even after the event has passed. You need to learn to let things go and realize that once the stressful happening is over its over. There's no need to keep reliving it over and over again. Just let it go and think happy thoughts, after all there is sure to be another thing that will come along and stress you out soon enough.
Stress can come from outside factors, or it can come from inside when you demand too much of yourself. Either way using effective stress relief techniques to handle the stress can help you cope and move on to better times.
